Built in 1904, the three-story building started its life as a two-story masonry building -- one that housed the Central Fire Station and Hook and Ladder #1,
according to the Londale's application for landmark status. But that building was destroyed by (wait for it) a fire that same year.
The fire station moved to another downtown location, and a new three-story building rose in its place with a motor car company
showroom on the first floor. But the second and third floors have served as either hotels or boarding houses for more than 100 years.
